Overview
The annotation tool provides teachers and students with the ability to markup and critique images, videos, and PDFs. This makes for an interactive experience between the instructor and students, allowing students to get feedback quicker and online. Students may also annotate and critique the work of their fellow classmates, promoting social and inclusive learning via media-based student to student interaction.
Creating Image Annotations
- Open any Harmonize discussion and navigate on the image you want to annotate.
- Click the Comment / Annotate button located beneath the image.
- The image will be copied into a new comment below the original post
- Select from a variety of annotation tools presented to the left of the copied image.
- Options for the selected tool will appear at the top including color, opacity, and size.
- Use the annotation tools to markup the image and drop callouts to leave comments.
- Clicking on the i icon at the bottom of the list of annotation tools will display all of the keyboard shortcuts for the various tools.

- When image annotations are complete, click Publish.
- Your comment, along with your annotated image, will appear inline when viewing the original post.

- Navigate to the video frame where you'd like to leave an annotation and click Annotate.
- Select from a variety of annotation tools presented to the left of the copied video.
- Options for the selected tool will appear at the top including color, opacity, and size.
- Use the annotation tools to markup the selected video frames and drop callouts to leave comments.
- Clicking on the i icon at the bottom of the list of annotation tools will display all of the keyboard shortcuts for the various tools.

Creating PDF Annotations
PDF Annotation provides instructors and students with the ability to markup and critique PDFs within Harmonize.
- Highlight text and drop pins anywhere in a PDF
- Add your own comments and reply to others’ annotations
- Easily jump to new annotations and unread replies
- Tag other users in comments and replies
Once the PDF Annotation is created by the instructor, both instructors and student can add new annotations as well as respond to the annotations of others. To do so, navigate to any PDF Annotation and use the markup tools outlined below to create annotations.

Q. Can students use the PDF Annotations feature to upload their own PDFs for annotation by the rest of the class?
- Uploading PDFs via the PDF Annotation feature is limited to instructors at this time. Students are able to add annotations to any PDF Annotation created by the instructor as well as respond to the annotations of their classmates.
