Grid vs. List View

  • Updated

Overview

Harmonize offers two different display options: Grid and List View.

Interactive Demo

Use the interactive tutorial below to learn about Grid View and List View. If you need or prefer step-by-step textual instructions, proceed to Grid View.

Some tips for using the tutorial:

  • Turn the volume up! Alternatively, you can mute the demo to view captions.
  • Get ready to interact! When the tutorial pauses and flashes a purple dot, click it to move forward.
  • Move at your own pace. When you hover in the upper lefthand corner, you will find "Back" and "Next" buttons that will allow you to jump through the steps more quickly.

Grid View

In Grid View, posts are displayed as cards. Users click on the cards to see the content.

Each card has a few key features:

  • [1] Cover Image. If a post contains an uploaded image or file or a video or screen recording, one of these items will be the cover image. If there are no applicable recorded or uploaded media items, the cover image will be the student's profile picture. For Canvas users, this image is pulled directly from the Canvas.
  • [2] Date, Student Name, and Subject. All posts will show the date they were posted, the name of the user who posted (or a unique, anonymous handle), and the subject line for the post, which the user drafts while posting.
  • [3] Comment Counts. These counts display the total number of comments on the post as well as the number of teacher comments.

List View

In List View, content is displayed in one continuous feed with no card previews. Users can scroll through all the posts rather than clicking into particular posts.

List view with post showing

In List View, only some comments are displayed by default.

  • By default, the list view shows the most recent two comments on each post.
  • If you have read earlier comments they will be collapsed under text that says "X Earlier Comments." Clicking on it will display the earlier comments.

Tip: List view is commonly used for private journaling spaces or small groups where there isn't tons of content so discoverability of content is not an issue.
