Overview
Harmonize allows you to record audio, video, or your screen using the recording tools available in your browser. You will, however, need to grant Harmonize access to these tools.
Allowing Permissions
The first time your attempt to record video, audio, or your screen in Harmonize, you will be asked to give Harmonize permission to access your camera, microphone, and/or screen. Click Allow or Yes (depending on your browser). Here is an example for microphone and Camera in a Chrome browser:
If you are not prompted, click the icon on the left of the URL bar and enable access to your camera and microphone. Reload the page when you're finished these steps. You should now have access to the Harmonize Recorder.

Browser Specific Information
Not sure how to adjust your settings? Here are some browser-specific guides that might help:
- Chrome: Use your camera and microphone in Chrome
- Firefox: How to manage your camera and microphone permissions with Firefox
- Safari: Change Websites settings in Safari on Mac
- Edge: Windows camera, microphone, and privacy
Troubleshooting Steps
If you're having trouble, we recommend following these steps:
- Begin by using the instructions above in Allowing Permissions and Browser Specific Information.
- When you're allowing permissions, check what camera is being used to record.
- Check that your browser is updated to the latest version and/or try using a different browser.
- Clear your browser cache and/or open Harmonize in a new tab and then allow permissions again. The button to open Harmonize in a new tab appears in the upper right corner.
- Try using a different device.
- See if your camera has its own privacy settings that need to be adjusted.
- If all else fails, you can record your media elsewhere and upload to Harmonize using the Add Media and Files button.
Screen Recording on Intel Macs
Screen recording may not work correctly due to an unresolved issue in Google Chrome affecting Intel Mac devices. If you are using an Intel Mac and Google Chrome, you can turn off graphics acceleration to fix this issue:
- Go to the kebab menu in the upper right of Chrome.
- Click Settings.
- From the menu on the left, select System.
- The toggle for graphics acceleration will be On by default. Click to turn it Off. (The screenshot below shows the On position.)
- Click Relaunch.
If this does not work, we recommend trying a different browser or device.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. I still can't record. What should I do?
- In the short term, try a different device or browser. You can even record media elsewhere and upload it to Harmonize. In the long term, consider getting help from your school's student IT, as they will be able to troubleshoot any problems particular to your device.
