Overview
You may add links to any external site by copy and pasting into the text box or by using the Add Link button in the Harmonize Editor. Linked media, such as YouTube videos or podcasts, will play embedded within the Harmonize window (if the media host allows this). For links to text based websites such as new articles, a preview of the site will appear beneath the added link.
How to Add a Link
There are two main ways to add links to Harmonize. You can copy and paste them directly into the text row like this:
Or you can add them using the Add Link button:
After clicking Add Link:
- Enter your link in the Source URL field.
- Once you are finished, click anywhere outside of this field. A preview of the link will automatically appear beneath the Source URL field.
Link Previews
However you choose to add links, we will use something called OpenGraph to provide previews of the resources you're linking to. For many resources, this will include a picture and a bit of information. Here is an example:
In the example above, you can see that we've pulled through an image and some information about the page. If you don't want this preview to appear, or if you want to move it up or down, you can use the icons in the upper right corner to delete or move it.
YouTube and Other Video Links
YouTube links are special. When you link to YouTube videos, they will automatically appear in a player directly on the page. You don't need embed code. This may or may not be possible with other video platforms: it depends on how those platforms have configured their videos to preview.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. I don't like the preview for my link. How do I turn it off?
- Previews appear automatically when you copy and paste links into the text box, but you can always delete them using the trash can icon in the upper right.
Q. Can I use timestamped feedback on YouTube videos? Will you caption YouTube videos?
- No, we can only provide timestamped feedback and captioning for videos recorded in or uploaded to Harmonize.
Q. Can I embed videos?
- No. Harmonize does not support embedding code for safety reasons. However, if you copy and paste regular links (not embed code) to YouTube videos, they will automatically play inside Harmonize.
Q. My school uses a media service such as Canvas Studios, Panopto, Yuja, or Kaltura. How do I get my videos into Harmonize?
- First, try copying and pasting a publicly available video link inside Harmonize. There is a chance it will appear inside a player so users don't have to leave Harmonize, but this is entirely dependent on how your school's media service has chosen to configure their content for previewing. If this doesn't work, we'd recommend downloading the video from your media service and then uploading it to Harmonize.
