Overview
Admins can enable audio description generation for student videos on a per-resource basis. This setting is available only for institutions with AI Accessibility enabled.
When this setting is turned on, Harmonize will generate audio descriptions for student videos in that specific resource. This also applies to student videos that were already submitted before the setting was enabled.
Who can change this setting?
Only admins, or admins included on the license allow list, can turn this setting on or off.
Instructors can see the current setting, but they cannot change it unless they have the required admin permissions.
Enable audio descriptions for student videos
- Open the Harmonize Discussion.
- Click Edit.
- Go to Post Settings.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the settings, toggle on Audio Descriptions for Student Videos, and click Publish.
Once enabled, audio descriptions will begin generating for student videos in that resource, including existing student videos.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens when a course is copied?
This setting always resets to disabled when a course is copied. This helps prevent institutions from unintentionally using AI Accessibility minutes in copied courses.
After copying a course, an admin will need to manually re-enable the setting for any resources where student video audio descriptions should be generated.
Why can’t I turn on the setting?
If you can see the setting but cannot change it, you do not have the necessary permissions. Contact a Canvas admin at your school to request access or ask them to enable the setting for the resource.
