Overview
In Peer Review activities, students may sometimes need to edit an assignment post after reviews have already been assigned or started. Because edits can affect reviewers and review assignments, students cannot make these changes on their own once peer review activity is underway. Instead, they will be prompted to contact their instructor for edit access.
Instructors can allow a student to edit their assignment post one time. After the student republishes their post, edit access resets. If the student needs to make another change later, the instructor will need to allow editing again.
When Students Can Edit Their Assignment Post
Students can continue to edit assignment posts normally if no reviews have been assigned and they have not started reviewing any peers.
If reviews have already been assigned to the student’s post, or if the student has started reviewing peer submissions, the student will still see the Edit option from the post menu.
However, selecting Edit will display a message explaining that they need to contact their instructor to request edit access.
Allow a Student to Edit Their Post
To allow a student to edit their Peer Review assignment post:
- Open the peer review activity.
- Locate the student’s assignment post.
- Open the post options menu.
- Select Allow Student to Edit.
- Review the confirmation message.
- Select Allow One-Time Editing.
The Allow Student to Edit option only appears when the student’s post has already been assigned for review, the student has started reviewing one or more peers, and the post is not already open for editing.
What Happens When You Allow Editing
When you allow editing, the student can republish their assignment post one time. Until the student republishes, reviewers will continue to see the current published version of the assignment.
Before allowing the edit, Harmonize will show information about students who may be affected, including:
- Students whose assignments the post author has already viewed as a reviewer
- Students who have been assigned to review the post author’s assignment
After the student republishes, those students will see the latest version of the assignment. Harmonize will not automatically remove or reset reviews that are already in progress or already published. If reviewers should revise their feedback after the student edits their assignment, contact those reviewers directly.
While the student’s post is open for editing, Harmonize will not assign that student’s work to any additional reviewers. New review assignments for that post can resume after the student republishes and edit access resets.
Viewing Edited Posts and Reviews
When an assignment post has been edited, a revision indicator appears in the activity view for both students and instructors.
Selecting the revision indicator opens the same version history available from the post options menu.
Frequently Asked Questions
I don't see the option to allow my student to edit. Why?
If the student's work has already been graded, they will not be edit to their assignment post.
Why can’t students always edit their Peer Review assignment posts?
Once reviews have been assigned or started, editing a post can affect other students’ review work. To help instructors stay aware of those effects, students must request edit access instead of editing independently.
Can students request edit access themselves?
No. Students can select Edit from the post menu, but if Peer Review activity is already underway, they will see a message directing them to contact their instructor.
How many times can a student edit after I allow access?
Once. Each approval allows the student to edit and republish the post one time. If the student needs to make another change later, you must allow editing again.
What happens to reviews that are already in progress?
Harmonize does not automatically remove, reset, or reopen reviews that are already in progress or already published. If reviewers should update their feedback after the student republishes, contact those reviewers directly.
Can reviewers see the edited version?
Yes. After the student republishes, assigned reviewers will see the latest version of the assignment post.
Will the student’s post be assigned to new reviewers while it is open for editing?
No. While the post is open for editing, Harmonize will not assign that student’s work to additional reviewers. New review assignments can resume after the student republishes.
