Overview
Version History lets you view previously published versions of a Harmonize activity and restore an earlier version if you need to undo changes.
Each time you publish changes, Harmonize creates a new version that includes the activity instructions and settings stored in Harmonize. You can see who published each version and when, then restore an earlier version as a draft for review before publishing it again.
Version History is currently available for Harmonize Discussions. Support for additional Harmonize activity types is coming.
View Version History
- Open the activity and click Edit.
- Select Version History. It will be at the very top and to the right.
- Review the list of previously published versions.
The most recent version is labeled Current version. For each previous version, you will see:
- The version number
- The person who published it
- The date and time it was published
- A Restore as Draft button
Restore a Previous Version
- Begin by Viewing Version History.
- Find the version you want to restore.
- Select Restore as Draft.
- Review the confirmation message.
- Select Restore Version [#] as Draft.
- Harmonize will return you to the activity settings with the selected version loaded as an unpublished draft.
- Review the restored activity and make any additional changes you need. When you are ready, select Publish to make the restored version available to students.
Important: Unpublished changes cannot be recovered through Version History
Version History only saves versions that have been published. If you have made changes to your current draft but have not published them, restoring an earlier version will replace those changes.
If you may want to return to your current changes later, publish them before restoring a previous version.
What Gets Restored?
Restoring a version returns the Harmonize activity to the instructions and settings included in that previously published version.
Settings that live only in your LMS are not part of Harmonize Version History.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Can I see exactly what changed between two versions?
- Not currently. Version History shows when each version was published and who published it, but it does not provide a side-by-side comparison or a list of individual changes.
Q. Does restoring a version immediately change what students see?
- No. An older version is restored as a draft. You can review or edit it before publishing.
Q. Can I restore changes that I never published?
- No. Version History only includes published versions. If you restore an earlier version while you have unpublished changes, those unpublished changes will be replaced and cannot be recovered through Version History.
Q. Does Version History restore settings from my LMS?
- No. Version History restores instructions and settings stored within Harmonize. Settings that are managed only in your LMS will need to be changed there separately. Depending on your LMS and activity setup, these may include the final due date, total points, the assignment title, LMS completion requirements, an LMS rubric that was not generated by Harmonize, or anonymous grading settings.
Q. What happens if an older version contains a setting that is no longer valid?
- You can still restore the version as a draft. If something in the restored version is not compatible with the activity's current configuration, Harmonize will alert you when you try to publish it. You can then update the affected setting and publish again.
Q. Why don't I see older versions of my item?
- Version History begins tracking versions after the feature is enabled. Changes published before Version History became available will not appear in the list.
Q. Which Harmonize activities support Version History?
- Version History is currently available for Harmonize Discussions. Support for additional Harmonize activity types is coming.
