Overview

Harmonize now supports peer review. Harmonize makes peer review easier, supports audio and video for both submissions and reviews, and facilitates a conversation between students and their reviewers.

I assigned a certain number of peer reviews. Why did a student receive more or fewer?

Harmonize uses just-in-time peer assignment to ensure students can start reviewing work as soon as it's available. In certain situations, this can result in students receiving extra reviews or not quite enough. This usually happens when students post their work late. It is also more likely to happen in smaller pools of students.

Can I put my students in small groups for peer review?

If you're using Blackboard or Canvas, you can use the small groups Visibility Setting to put students in small groups. For example: Grouping students into groups of 3 and requiring each student to do 2 reviews is a way to specify that they all review each other. Note that we will still release work for review as it becomes available, and smaller groups may result in some students being left out if other students are late or don't submit work.

Can I assign a student to review a specific draft?

Yes, you can do this by putting students in small groups. Note, however, that we will still release work for review as it becomes available, and smaller groups may result in some students being left out if other students are late or don't submit work.

Do you have a resource I can provide to my students to learn how to use peer review?

Yes. You can direct students to Peer Review: Student Guide.

Should I include my peer review instructions along with the instructions for the draft/assignment post?

No, peer review instructions should be kept separate from the assignment post instructions. This matters for two reasons:

  1. If kept separate, we will display the correct instructions for the student precisely when they need them: they will see assignment post instructions while posting their assignment and peer review instructions while completing peer review.
  2. If you choose to generate a rubric for students to use for scoring each other's work during peer review, the rubric will be pulled from the assignment post instructions. For this reason, you don't want any items related to the peer review process to appear in that area.
