Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I change my ungraded component (discussion, assignment, peer review, etc.) into a graded one?

  • This may or may not be possible depending on your school's LMS and it may come with unintended consequences. We recommend recreating the assignment as a graded assignment from the ground up if at all possible.

Q. Can I turn off chat in my course?

  • No, chat can only be disabled at the global level (i.e., for an entire school). However, individuals can disable chat using the Chat Settings in their profile. In general, students are unlikely to use this feature if you don't explicitly add it to a module.

Q. Can I disable the Communication Center?

  • No, but Canvas users can remove it from the lefthand panel by updating the course's navigation settings in Canvas.

Q. Can I add a second Course Q&A?

  • No, but you can add a Topic Q&A, which has nearly identical functionality.
