Submit a Harmonize Individual Assignment

  • Updated

Overview

Harmonize Individual Assignments allow you to submit work privately to your instructor.

Although the interface may look similar to a Harmonize Discussion, other students cannot see your Individual Assignment posts. Your work is visible only to you and your instructor.

Submitting your assignment usually means creating and publishing a post in Harmonize. Depending on how your instructor has set up the assignment, you may need to create one post, multiple posts, or comments on your own work.

Check Your Assignment Requirements

Before posting your assignment, review the Milestones at the top of the activity.

Requirements panel example

Milestones show what you need to complete and may include:

  • One or more required posts
  • Comments on your own work
  • Due dates
  • Your completion progress

If the assignment includes multiple Milestones, each Milestone may have its own due date and requirements.

Your Milestone progress will update as you complete the required work.

Minimum Word Counts

If your instructor has set a minimum word count, you will see that requirement when you begin creating your post.

Only text entered directly into the Harmonize text box counts toward the minimum word count. Text contained in an uploaded document does not count toward this requirement.

Post Your Assignment

To begin:

  • Open the Individual Assignment.
  • Click Create new post.
Create new post button

You will be taken to a space to draft your post.

Harmonize supports a wide variety of submission types. You will see a text box and upload button by default, but you can always add additional rows of content using the content creation controls at the bottom.

Depending on the assignment, you may be asked to:

You can include more than one type of content in the same post. For example, you might type a short introduction and attach a document or video.

Publish Your Assignment

When your post is ready, click Publish.

Publishing makes your post visible to your instructor.

After publishing:

  • Your post should appear in the Individual Assignment.
  • Your Milestone progress should update.
  • Completed requirements will appear in green.

Check your Milestone progress after publishing to make sure you have completed all required work.

Your classmates cannot see your published post.

Complete Additional Posts or Comments, If Required

Some Individual Assignments include more than one requirement.

Create Additional Posts

Your instructor may require:

  • Multiple posts for the same Milestone, or
  • Additional posts for later Milestones.

If another post is required, create and publish it the same way you submitted your first post.

Be sure to check the Milestone requirements and due dates so you know when each post is due.

Reply to Your Own Work, If Required

Your instructor may also require you to comment on your own work.

For example, you might be asked to add a reflection after receiving feedback.

To add a comment:

  • Locate your published post.
  • Click Reply, or click in the comment box below your post.
  • Alternatively, click on your documents or videos to make line comments or timestamped feedback.
  • Add your response.
  • Click Publish.

Comments you add to your Individual Assignment are also private and are not visible to other students.

After You Submit

Your instructor can review and respond directly to your Individual Assignment.

Feedback may include:

  • Written comments
  • Video or audio responses
  • Screen-recorded feedback
  • Comments on specific text in a document
  • Drawings or pins on an image
  • Timestamped comments on a video

Your instructor's feedback remains part of your private Individual Assignment. Other students cannot see your submission or your instructor's responses.
