Overview
Harmonize Pages are a flexible, page-style space for organizing media-rich, accessible instructional content without student posts or comments. Use Pages when you want to share course materials in a familiar “content page” format, while still giving students lightweight ways to engage through polls.
With Harmonize Pages, you can:
- Deliver accessible media with less manual work. Upload and record videos and images that automatically include captions, AI-generated audio descriptions, and AI-generated alt text (which you can review and edit).
- Check understanding in the moment. Optionally embed poll questions directly alongside your content, so students respond as they move through instructions, examples, and videos.
- Keep content focused and low-pressure. Share materials without requiring students to post or reply, while still gaining visibility into participation through poll responses (if desired).
- Build a clear learning path. Place text, media, and polls in a single page, then adjust the order as you refine the flow of your lesson.
Note: Harmonize Pages are available only for institutions with AI Accessibility enabled.
Interactive Tutorial
Use the interactive tutorial below to learn how to Create a Harmonize Page. If you need or prefer step-by-step textual instructions, proceed to Why don’t I see Pages?
Some tips for using the tutorial:
- Turn the volume up! Alternatively, you can mute the demo to view captions.
- Get ready to interact! When the tutorial pauses and flashes a purple dot, click it to move forward.
- Move at your own pace. When you hover in the upper lefthand corner, you will find "Back" and "Next" buttons that will allow you to jump through the steps more quickly.
Why don’t I see Pages?
If you do not see Pages in the Harmonize component picker, it likely means your institution does not currently have AI Accessibility enabled.
To learn more about this feature (and how your institution can enable it), visit AI Accessibility at Harmonize.
Create a Harmonize Page
Pages are created as non-graded Harmonize items, but the steps differ slightly by LMS:
Canvas
Canvas has a distinct process for adding non-graded Harmonize items, such as Pages.
- Go to Modules and choose a particular Module.
- Click the + button to the right of the Module title.
- Select External Tool from the dropdown menu that appears.
- Choose Harmonize from the list of options.
- In the component picker, select Page, then complete setup (see Build a Page).
Blackboard, Brightspace, and Moodle
In these LMSes, follow your standard process for adding a Harmonize item, then select Page.
For detailed, step-by-step LMS setup instructions, go to Add a Harmonize Component to Your Course. Canvas users will need to select Canvas as their LMS and then choose "ungraded" as the component type.
Add Content to Your Page
Pages are made of content sections (often called “rows” in Harmonize). You can add as many sections as you need, then move them up or down to create the flow you want. Here is how the editor will appear when you first enter:
- Page Title. This field will be prefilled with text that you entered while adding the component to your course.
- Formatting options. Add headings or subheadings, change text alignment or color, access the equation editor, and more. For details, see Text Formatting and Editing Options.
- Text section. This is where you can add written content. Each Page starts with one text section. To add more text sections anywhere in the Page, add another text row and move it above or below other content such as videos, images, or polls. For details, see Editing or Creating a Text Row.
- Add Media and Files. This is where you can upload media. For details, see Uploading Media and Files.
-
Add additional content. Here you can (from left to right):
- Add Additional Text Rows
- Add Non-Executing Code
- Add Media and Files
- Add Links
- Record Video
- Record Audio
- Screen Record
- Add Polls (see below)
Add polls to check understanding
Polls are added just like other content but deserve special attention because they are the only student interaction available in Harmonize Pages. Use polls to add quick check-ins between content segments.
In Polls, you can:
- See how the class as a whole has responded.
- See which students have responded.
In Polls, you cannot:
- See how an individual student responds.
- Designate a right answer.
- Allow students to select multiple answers.
See Add a Poll and View Polls and Results for details.
Format Your Page
Arrange content (move or delete)
Each content section includes controls to move the section up or down or delete it.
Place uploaded items side-by-side
You can place uploaded items (such as images) side-by-side by uploading multiple items at once and choosing "small" or "medium" for the thumbnail size. Note that users on smaller screens might still see the items in a vertical columns due to space constraints.
Important: Avoid linking to LMS or Harmonize items inside a Page
Pages copy cleanly when a course is copied, but links inside the Page do not always update the way instructors expect.
- Links to external sites (regular web links) will continue to work after a course copy.
- Links to LMS items or Harmonize items inside a Page will continue pointing back to the original course, which breaks navigation for students in the copied course.
Recommendation: Do not place links to LMS or Harmonize items inside the Page content. Use external links only.
Internal Links in Canvas
If you are a Canvas user and need internal Canvas links, you might consider using a zero-point Harmonize Poll, Discussion, or Individual Assignment instead of a Page. You can then place the internal Canvas links in the Canvas Rich Content Editor, and they will appear directly above the Harmonize content.
Accessibility in Pages
In Pages, accessibility outputs are automatically generated for supported content types. For additional information about all our accessibility features, see:

Frequently Asked Questions
Why can’t I see Pages in the component picker?
- Harmonize Pages are available only for institutions with AI Accessibility enabled. Want access? See AI Accessibility at Harmonize.
Can students comment or reply anywhere on a Page?
- No. Harmonize Pages do not allow student posts, replies, or comments. Polls are the only student interaction in Pages.
Can I copy or reuse Pages in a new course?
- Yes. Pages copy cleanly in a course copy. Note that links to external sites remain intact, but you should avoid internal links. Links to LMS or Harmonize items inside a Page will continue pointing back to the original course after copying, making them unusable for new students.
Can I create availability dates for Pages or hide them?
- Yes, but not within Harmonize. Harmonize Pages do not currently support setting availability dates or hiding Pages directly within Harmonize. However, you should be able to control the availability of your Harmonize Pages using settings in your LMS such as Publish/Unpublish,"Available From" and "Available To" dates, and/or Module viewing prerequisites.
Can I edit the AI-generated alt text or audio descriptions?
- Yes. Instructors can edit AI-generated alt text for images, AI-generated audio descriptions for videos, and machine generated captions for videos. See Alt Text and Media Captions and View and Use Transcripts, Closed Captions, and Audio Descriptions for details.
Can I turn a Page into a graded assignment later?
- No. Pages cannot be converted into graded items.
Can I download poll participation data?
- Yes. You can download a report that shows which students responded and when. The report does not show how students voted. Response times in the report are shown in UTC. See Viewing Poll Results for details.
I deleted a Harmonize Page by accident. Can I restore it?
- Maybe. Harmonize Pages are deleted by removing the LMS item. If you deleted the LMS item by accident and need it restored, you can submit a request for support.
What exactly do polls show to instructors and students?
- It depends. Students may see results always, after voting, after the poll is closed, or never, based on the settings the instructor chooses.
- Students can see their choice. When students can see results, they see what they selected and how the class responded overall.
- Instructors see participation, not choices. Instructors can see who responded and when, and they can see aggregate results, but they cannot see how individual students voted.
- See Viewing Poll Results for details.
